Description
I have a sustained engagement with multiple aspects of creative worlds. Over the last twenty years my experiences have crossed art, photography, craft, performance, writing and journalism. This has given me a really broad understanding of a huge swathe of the creative industry, as well as being a practitioner in it, and I am often asked for advice.
A few things that I have specialist knowledge of:
Being a recipient of grants from multiple sources, submitting (probably) hundreds of applications for projects, awards, fellowships and prizes.
The role of Megabus / other budget travel option to go for a cup of tea with someone to build a working relationship with said someone.
Why attending talks, book launches, private views and supporting the opening night of friends, colleagues and peers is important.
Working in education: I’ve been both a lecturer and an assistant and I’ve taught photography and media studies in further and higher education as well as life-long-learning settings. I also went to an alternative school for eight years and can knit, sew or carve you a spoon if I had to.
I know how to budget a big project, a small project or a do-it-on-fumes project.
Transformational: what it is to segue from one ‘thing’ to another while continuing making sense to the audience you already have.
How to stay alert – and cognisant of your own mental health – in the movable feast that is the art world.
