‘The Almost Mother’

It’s been extraordinary being in Acts of Creation: On Art and Motherhood. There’s the obvious thing of being in a show which everyone goes to see. It’s incredible to see work that you made living it’s own life.

And there’s the place where it lands – that feeling – inside the body of the artist who made it.

Part of this is about validation…although we don’t want to be wedded to what others’ think of our work as the thing that propels us, as artists, it’s undoubtedly important to get some sort of feedback to putting it in the world. And then there is also the emotional power that it generates through that process. Because something that happened, that you made work about, has a place to land too.

I didn’t know how much it would mean to have that.
